Saudi Arabia partners with Samsung and bets on robots to build houses faster and cheaper

Saudi Arabia takes a new step towards innovation in construction with the signing of an agreement between NEOM and Samsung C&T to implement the world's largest automation in steel structure assembly. The investment, which exceeds the 1.300 billion Saudi riyals ($350 million), will reduce manual labor time by up to 80% and lower costs by 40%. The alliance seeks to establish factories in NEOM that use Advanced robots for the manufacturing and assembly of structural reinforcements, generating more than 2.000 highly specialized jobs and strengthening Saudi leadership in sustainable construction technology.
NEOM and Samsung: the commitment to automated construction
The agreement between NEOM and Samsung C&T has a clear objective: transforming construction through automation and robotics. Technology will enable the production of large pre-assembled steel structures, optimizing processes and significantly reducing time and costs in construction projects.
Majid Mufti, CEO of NEOM Investment Fund, highlighted that Automation not only improves efficiency, but also boosts safety and sustainability. By reducing the dependence on manual labor, occupational risks are minimized and the use of materials is optimized, aligning with NEOM's strategy of becoming a model for advanced and ecological construction.
The implementation of these specialized robots for the Welding and tying structural reinforcements will allow parts to be assembled more quickly and accurately, eliminating waste and improving the final quality of the structures. This system is up to 40% cheaper than traditional methods and could revolutionize the construction industry globally.
Economic impact and job creation
Beyond technical optimization, The agreement will result in the creation of more than 2.000 jobs in Saudi Arabia, focusing on highly qualified professionals. The construction of factories specializing in the production of steel structures within NEOM will allow to respond to the demand of megaprojects such as THE LINE and other key infrastructure in the region.
The impact will not be limited to Saudi Arabia, as global demand for rebar has been on the rise. Samsung and NEOM are seeking to position themselves as leaders in the automation of this process, which could mark the beginning of a new era in construction at an international level.
